Anna
and Ron Woodstock bought a 5,000-squarefoot log home and square-timber
barn on 13-acres in Stittsville. Their daughters named
it The Ponderosa. After renovating a horse stable next to their house, it
became the antique store named Ponderosa's Barn.
If
you are looking for
Canadiana
furniture, vintage bone china, silverware and whimsical country decor
they stock it.
Open since July, Ponderosa's Barn isn't the first stab at the retail
business for Anna a diehard antique collector.
In the '80s, Anna and Ron operated an antiques store in Orléans, but
found it difficult at that time.
Regulars at antique shows and many different auctions across the Ottawa Valley and Van's
Auction Service in Kingston, it was a smooth transition after 30 years of buying, selling and
collecting antiques, to start the operation of an antique store
once again in the newly renovated "Ponderosa's Barn".
Now the commute is hard to beat. with the business on the property, and
Anna working part time at the nearby kennel.
Retired 45 years as a financial planner, Ron get his hands
dirty stripping paint from old dressers, dining tables, china
cabinets that he picks up at auctions and estate sales or through
pickers. Or if we don't have something, (what customers are looking
for), we'll try to find it for them.
The
Barn has
a second-floor loft filled with beautiful furniture as well, but since
it isn't heated it will only be open until the weather gets to
cold. |
